How Talking Out Your Content Will Help You Find Your Brand Voice

Hey Reader,

Have you ever sat down to write content only to find yourself stuck, overthinking every word?

You want to sound professional, but it feels stiff, robotic, or just… not you?

I get it. It’s something I’ve struggled with too, but I found a simple trick that works wonders.

Instead of writing your content from scratch, start by talking it out first.

Here’s why this works:

When we talk, we speak naturally, using a conversational tone that feels more authentic. It’s real. The words flow freely and sound like what we’’d sound like if we were trying to explain something to a friend on a call.

But when we write, we often try to overthink the “right” way to say things, and it can lose that spark of personality.

Take this email, for example: if I was explaining this to you on a call, I might say, “Friend! You’re overthinking it. All you gotta do is open up the notes app on your phone and talk it out. It’ll come out way more naturally and actually sound like you.”

But when I write it, it comes out like this “You’re overthinking this. Follow these simple steps to make it easier.” Both convey the same message, but the first one feels more like me, right?

How this helps you:

Talking your content out helps you stay true to your brand voice. You want your audience to hear you in your words, not some formal, scripted version of you. By speaking your content, you capture the essence of your personality and your tone. You also avoid the trap of over-polishing, which can make your content feel less authentic.

And this is crucial when it comes to creating a memorable brand.

💥 YOUR SIMPLE STRATEGIES:

  1. Talk first, write later: When you sit down to create content (whether it’s an email, a blog post, or social media caption), start by saying it out loud. Pretend you’re talking to a friend or client and explain the topic the way you naturally would.
    1. In Google Docs, you can literally hit Command+Shift+S and it will open the Voice to Text for you.
  2. Edit from there: After you’ve spoken your ideas, go back and refine them. You can clean up awkward phrases or make it flow better, but the heart of your content will remain true to your voice.

🥂 ICYMI: INTENSIVE SPOTS ARE NOW OPEN!

Yesterday I worked with Shatara to refine her Content Repurposing VIP Day.

Shatara booked her intensive because she was unsure about her industry and how to present her offer. But after our time together, she gained the clarity and confidence she needed to show up authentically and embrace her true voice. Here’s what she had to say:

“I’ve gained so much confidence! You made everything so simple, and now I feel like I can actually get to work. You helped me see that I can have a $3500 offer and that I don’t have to overthink it. You were patient, kind, and truly made me feel like I could do this—even as a beginner. You pushed me to show up as me—loud, introverted, funny, all of it. That’s how I’ll connect with people.”

Shatara’s transformation is exactly what happens when you lean into your authentic self and stop overthinking.

If you’re ready to package your expertise into a premium consulting offer and sell it all while showing up as your true self then your next step is too book your Personal Branding & Marketing Intensive today!
